Hernia Story: Was Surgery necessary?
Patience is needed with all types of healing. Please read the true story below, then decide for yourself if this person might have benefited by postponing his surgery.
Bob (not his real name), came to ACM for treatment in order to avoid hernia surgery. Bob’s home is 6 hours travel time from our Middleton location. Since Bob lives so far away, David suggested that Bob follow a special Chinese Herbal Program at home. The formula Bob was to use had been specifically formulated to promote healing in herniated tissue. Bob began his herbal program in September 2006.
Here are excerpts from Bob’s correspondence addressed to David about his concerns:
“I am concerned that I am not getting any relief yet from the remedies I have taken for this hernia. Because of my active life style from the duties I still do as a dairy farmer it has moved down lower and is more uncomfortable…I really hoped I can heal this out without surgery if at all possible…I don’t want to give up but I wonder how it can heal if it is still getting injured from my daily lifestyle. I am trying to lessen my duties some but maybe it is not going to be enough. Surgery is about a 4 -6 week full recovery response.
But I dread it as I have never had any surgery yet. ”

I decided on Nov7, to go ahead with the surgery. It is scheduled for Nov 17th …
Can these remedies be used in another way for treatment for me? …can they be taken to help heal the surgery faster and healthier?
…What do they actually do to assist the body to heal? My hernia is just too severe to heal by itself without surgery. P.S. I stopped taking the remedies totally on Nov 7th.

Bob went ahead and had his hernia surgery as he and his surgeon had planned. When he came to ACM for an acupuncture treatment on November 28, 2006, he told David that the surgeon had a hard time repairing the hernia because the tissue had already healed so much on its own. The herniated tissue fibers had repaired, making the tissue thick, fibrous and to difficult to surgically cut.
Healing is a natural rebuilding process that can take time. When people receive acupuncture treatment they may not be focused on healing. They may be expecting a quick cure. Healing and curing do not have the same meaning. The misunderstanding of how tissue needs to reconnect and repair itself, may lead to feeling of discouragement. These feelings can get in the way long term and successful healing. It is best to be patient and let acupuncture and natural therapies support the natural healing process. |
